In my life photography is not a job but definitely it is more than a simple fun.
Like many, I believe, I started snapping everything, holidays and friends, macro and girls, nature and work of art, without rule and inspiration, only because I had a camera. So more than once I stopped taking photos, then started again, then stopped...

The real meaning to myself of photograpy, became clear to me working in the darkroom. Only in the darkroom I realized what I'm interested on, which subjects, how to render my images.
Darkroom, where I deal with Black & White, made clear to me when and why to snap in color, also.

Mountains and Architecture predominate the subjects of my photography, and Black and White is the mediun of choice.

I snap other subjects, when I find it interesting, but not everything. I'm not interested in macro and I don't like reportage neither I like people: if You find people in my images, they are not the subject.

I work with color when the subject requires: at Brice Canyon or Petra, color is the matter that makes it exciting.

Black & White photography is rendering of shapes, that leads to, and requires also, conceptual abstraction, while color is rendering of surfaces, essentially a visual impact with no deepness or perspective (the section "Bodies" makes this very clear).

Mountains

My mountains are B&W.

"My mountains" means the mountains of my land, the places that are a couple of hours far from home.
Places where I go, often, not to take photos.

Architecture

Architecture essentially is a matter of definition of void by means of solid.
In other words it is the creation of a meaningful space by means of walls, orders, decorations, and the meaning is awarded by interrelation of the volumes which form the complex and by the management of light.
Architectural photography is not (only) photography of faÁades, columns, domes: it is rendering of the three dimensions of space on a flat surface.
This is the challenge.

B&W Photography

25 ASA, tripod, F22 and ... be there 20 minutes before.
This is not technical information (You will find it, if You like, in the dedicated section) but it's my approach to the subject.
B&W is photography when you are not in a hurry, when can stop and think, when you choose perhaps not to take the photo.
When You "build" the image, from the preview up to the control of grey levels in the darkroom.
